aftermarket fuel tank setups... filler neck pics?
hey, i bought a 72 lwb project truck. it has an aftermarket fuel tank after the axle. its a nice tank etc. the guy was planning on putting the filler neck behind the passenger rear marker light, having it hinge out. however i dont like this idea much, its neat but i dont think its very practical. i was thinking about cutting a hole through the inner bedside and having the filler neck come out in front of the tailgate. i was wondering if anyone has any pics of their setups, it would be greatly appreciated in helping me . sorry i have long posts.

Re: aftermarket fuel tank setups... filler neck pics?
I too liked the idea bout havin the taillense swing out. Its a better idea than the marker lite, more room to work with. Esp for a daily driver i thought it wouldnt b long b4 the paint chipped out around the marker lite. And that would make me sad lol.
I am glad others are tryin to figure thiz out too. I KNOW PEOPLE HAVE SLICK SETUPS - LETS GET SUM PICS! |

Re: aftermarket fuel tank setups... filler neck pics?
Lots of ideas out there. Fuel doors in the bedsides are pretty popular and may be easier than the two mentioned up there. I went through the floor, and then I do have plenty of room under to make my 90. This is a marien filler that can be had for about 20 bucks.

Re: aftermarket fuel tank setups... filler neck pics?
I will have mine done on the inner bedside by the end of the week and I will post some pics. It is a piece of 5 inch square tubing cut at a 45 and welded into the inner bed side over a 4 inch hole. I welded a piece of plate over the tubing and cut a hole in it to mount my filler in

Re: aftermarket fuel tank setups... filler neck pics?
This is what I am looking to do to my truck....I just have one question, how did you vent it. I know the filler used is not vented and I want something clean but functional. Thanks

Re: aftermarket fuel tank setups... filler neck pics?
The tank I used have 2 or 3 vents coming out of it. I used one and blocked the others off. I just ran the vent hose along the filler and then put a one way valve at the end.

Re: aftermarket fuel tank setups... filler neck pics?
Heres another way to do it by john fabris. Some trucks also have the plumbing inside the bed with a cover like blazers.

Re: aftermarket fuel tank setups... filler neck pics?
Hey man, I'm doing the same thing with a steel fleetside, can you tell me how you made that 90* turn from the fill hole, this thing is kicking my ass, I'm using a suburban tank with a 1 1/4 fill hole trying to get to that Marine fill tube with a 2" hole.
Any help would be much appreciated Thanks in advance Bill |

Re: aftermarket fuel tank setups... filler neck pics?
I to am in the process of installing fuel filler in a 72 truck. I like the way Mudder did his but I have no room for filler pipe. It looks to me Mudder has no problem because he has body lift. Has this been done on a truck that is not lifted?
Here are some ideas that were suggested to me. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=354052

Re: aftermarket fuel tank setups... filler neck pics?
Kev'sclassics- I have no body lift, and have a similar set-up with the horizontal fill tube. There's space for it , just barely, but it will work on a vehicle without a body lift. Remember a horizontal fill tube fills slow as all hell, the longer the tube, the slower it fills, so the more you can elevate the fill tube, the faster it will fill.
Also you will need some kind of vent set-up, either vented into your fill tube or on a separate vented line off the tank, etc. I put mine behind my tail light. Hinged at the bottom, with the filler tube snaked through the opening, then through the stake pocket, then the cross sill, then to the blazer tank out back. Crappy pics are in the first link below... no need to re-post crappy pictures! I know Yank and huggercst have done it there too, and I think quite a few other board members have also. I hinged mine at the very bottom or the lens surround, I think yank hinged his higher, off the stake pocket. Also HuggerCST did something I didn't realize until I installed and used mine. he put LED lights in there, the OE style bulb still has that socket sticking out the back, so mine has the wiring in a kinda hinkey place. It's worked out alright, I want to re-do it with LEDs with the wiring modified to come out of the bottom of the lens I know both of theirs were/are very cleanly done, great inspiration. Mine worked well, but was never finished before I tore the truck to the frame.lol one day...... here's a few links, read up, check em out Should be the tail light fillers I mentioned and other cool ideas. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=117123 http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=246851 if ya search, you'll find alot more info pics etc.
