vacuum wiper motor
recently got a vacuum wiper motor for my 54 gmc and wanted to know a little bit about these things like do the need to be greased, who makes a rebuild kit, just anything about them besides they suck. i know they suck but for now being on a tight budget that is what i will be using. my truck will be a summer car cruse vheicle to start with so i won't need th wipers too often. any info or links would be great. i tried stovebolt but no luck.

Re: vacuum wiper motor
Try Jim Carter for parts or replacements. They actually aren't that bad unless you have to climb long hills. In a pince you can tied a hanger to the wiper and do it manually out the window, I've done that more than once out in the boonies.

Re: vacuum wiper motor
I have taken them apart, cleaned them up and put a thin coat of petrolum jelly on the inside. I'd try to get at least a cover gasket first though.
I ended up buying one of the cable driven electric units for my truck. |

Re: vacuum wiper motor
well i took mine apart last night cleaned it up made new gaskets for it (gota love copier scanners) and put a thin coat of p jelly on it. it worked when i got it but it only when one way then stopped. i think that it was pluged up the grease inside was like tar so that what i think was stopping it on the return stroke. thanks again for all the advise. it seem to work better now that it was cleaned and lubed but i still have to hook some vacuum to it to check it for sure.

Re: vacuum wiper motor
Anyone have a diagram of how the vacuum wipers hook to the switch. I don't know anything about these motors but don't expect to be in the rain much with the truck and I seem to have all the parts to make put it back original. It has a little lever on it, is that what connects to the switch? Thanks
