Re: 5.3L vs. 6.0L Questions
My 2006 2500HD 6.0 had a rod knock after I bought it used from a Chevy Dealer. Even though it was out of the factory warranty, Chevrolet paid for it. They replaced the crank, and rod & main bearings. This 6.0 is a stronger engine than the 5.3 I had, but still don't like the gas mileage.

Re: 5.3L vs. 6.0L Questions
Well I got a surprise while trying to find the spid sticker on Coop's 2500HD....seems to be nowhere in sight on either my truck or his...where is the darn thing?

Re: 5.3L vs. 6.0L Questions
I just remembered I have both the 2000, 2003 & 2005 GMC brochures and e3ach one states the availability of the 5 speed manual on certain models. Coop's truck is a 2006 so we know it's been available from 00-06 at the very least. I would gamble you could still get the 5 speed today.
Coop did say it took the dealer several days to find his when he bought it. He thought he was going to have to order one, but the dealer finally found one.

Re: 5.3L vs. 6.0L Questions
The rpo sheet should be on the inside of the glovebox door. If the glovebox door has been replaced, then it is probably gone. I have a 1500HD, I am pretty sure they didn't come with a 5 speed. They usually came pretty loaded and their lowest trim level is the LT I think.

Re: 5.3L vs. 6.0L Questions
He has owned his since day one and nothing was ever in the glovebox door. I know the older trucks have it there but neither mine nor his has one. His glove box door has never been touched.

Glove box door on my 1500HD too. They never put them anywhere else that I know of.
