Daily Driver SWB
I have been having the roughest last month. I had my truck stolen right out of my driveway and with Vegas being the highest area for fraudulent vehicle thefts it has been a hell of a time to get anything done in any efficient time. unfortunately I am down to only one running vehicle I have to share with my girl. First time I have not had a third vehicle in a long time.
Anyways, instead of buying another truck that is newer I have been trying to scrounge up a daily driver SWB that was not going to break the bank. Went and looked at one last night that looked fairly straight. driver front fender dinged but not that big of a deal. And although the battery was dead it started up and ran. He said he has all the bumpers and the tail light lenses. I think I am going to pick it up at the end of the week. Will take the weekend to get it all back together but I think it will be a reliable driver as I fix it up and drive it. What do you think? Its a 71, working Air and runs. Ill have to get the lenses back on and the seat in but thats easy stuff. The truck looks rough but if you think about new wheels, lowered and new seat cover it will clean up quickly and nicely. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by vegaschevy; 07-20-2009 at 12:58 PM. |

Re: Daily Driver SWB
You didn't give a price, so not sure if it's a good deal. However, it looks to be a nice solid truck. The hardest thing you are going to find, is not wanting to take it apart to fix things if you need it for a daily driver. It sounds easy, but when you want to fix that fender, then you take it off, before you know it you can have yourself talked into having the whole front clip off to detail the engine, then the frame, so the body comes off. Before you know it you have it torn down and undriveable. Take it from me, I've done it. I have a swb stepper thats sitting in my garage. It was running and driving and pretty much only needed paint. I got carried away and now it's in a million pieces. Still needs paint. If you can control yourself, it can be a good deal. If not, buy the truck and get a beater car/truck while you fix this one up. If the price is right, I wouldn't pass on it. I hope this helps you a little.

Re: Daily Driver SWB
For that price you would be a fool to pass it up. If it is in that nice of condition, and all original (except for the steering wheel I see) I would consider restoring this one using the frame it has. Build a crazy truck out of non oe parts. Don't get me wrong, I love a nice custom truck, but one like this one I would restore back to the original blue and white. THen get a nice frame to cut up and start another truck. If necessary this truck restored could fund the other truck. JMHO.

Re: Daily Driver SWB
THink how nice it would look, blue and white, wood trim on the sides. It would definatley be less expensive to clean that one up, than it would be to totally customize it. Again, JMHO.

Re: Daily Driver SWB
i'm with jorgensen on this one. Keep it original blue w/ white and cheyenne short bed. They are too hard to find especially in this shape atleast around here. Save this one for resto and start with a plain jane swb to customize. My 2 cents. Trevor

Re: Daily Driver SWB
That unmolested Cheyenne SWB is a rare find anywhere.Get anal about all the mechanics and enjoy rolling in casual carefree style.it`ll buff out...seriously.Buy trim, get it all right and roll. It`s a twin to Powell72`s and that truck made a magazine feature. They`re only unrestored once.I`ll still put a serious security system in it.Definately a tracking system.Although idiot theives are attracted to shiney bright things like a monkey is,some may have evolved enough to realize the value of a truck like that.

Re: Daily Driver SWB
Looks like the twin to my 72 Super. Mine has a BBC, tach, tilt, air, etc. Maybe one day it'll be back together.

Re: Daily Driver SWB
![]() I wouldn't over-modify that truck, definitely to clean for that. Put some original trim (to match the paint), get it road ready, and then drive it!

Re: Daily Driver SWB
As already said, I would just roll that thing
Its sweet & if youre like me you will get carried away with all the things you COULD do to it Im having a very hard time not going nuts on my driver right now too, & its a 90 But definitely get it & start working on the mechanical part of it, it may run, but it may decide to have a major oil leak or something in a 100 miles, you never know Plus how are the brakes ??? That kinda stuff will eat you alive in $$$ plus take up all your time Hope it goes well for you, sweet truck ![]() |
