The connection from the wiring harness to the gauge cluster may have a problem. The voltmeter, turn signals, and the function of the entire cluster all depend on this connector. The speedometer is a different story as it is cable driven but it's not too hard to diagnose. First thing to check is if the cable is still attached to the back to the speedometer.

Re: wtf

I would start at the same place if the dash was going haywire, but the truck was still driving fine.

Re: wtf

forget the battery make sure your alternator is charging and the belt is properly tightened.. that is more likely the problem

Re: wtf

yeah, this issue deffinately sounds like an alternator issue. i had the belt come loose on one of my vehicles a few years back and it acted like the alternator was dead. the only thing keeping me alive at the moment was the momentum from going 60 mph. no lites, stereo, nothin. the only things i had were barely any headlights(but they were more like park lights) and my speedo. so check the alternator.

Re: wtf

well the voltmeter is after market and im hopping its an easy fix for the speedo and the reason i think it was the battery was cuz it came out of my old truck witch had problems keeping a charge but i thought it was the alternator in my old truck

Re: wtf

an easy way to test the alternator while its still on the vehicle is to take a multimeter and check the terminal on the back. if you are getting anything less than about 13.5 volts then your alternator is going bad. even with a bad battery, the alternator should keep the system charged.

Re: wtf

a relatively easy way to check the speedo cable is to disconnect it from the tranny, hook a drill up to it, and see if the drill can make your speedo needle move. a 12v coordless should be able to spin that cable fast enough to get that needle up to about 20mph or so if your cable is good. so if your cable is connected to the speedo then i would check it with the drill.
