Water puddling on the passenger side floor?

Whenever I park/drive the truck during a good rain, I get water coming into the truck and puddling at the base of the passenger side kickpanel just forward of the door sill. It's enough to soak the carpet, but it dries rather quickly.

I've done some troubleshooting and it appears to be coming in from the cowl on the passenger side and then leaking down the far passenger side of the inner firewall and through a few screws holding on the a/c components and firewall pad under the dash in that area.

I've looked under the hood and all the gaskets/seals visible to me without removing the cowl/hood seem to be installed and in decent shape.

Any thoughts on what this water is getting through to get into the cab?

Could be your windshield seal.

Well I thought I ruled that out.

I did a test spray with the hose isolated at where the hood and cowl meet. I saw water getting in the void where the hood hinge mounts. Then I saw water in the floorboard. Up to that point, I hadn't sprayed the windsheild.

mine leaked from the kick panel area. The seal/gasket around the a/c circulate flapper thingy was leaking.

a/c tape? Like insulated tape. You did it from the inside after removing the dash? Tell me more...

I need to check that too. I thought it look pretty dried out and crappy when I replaced my kickpanels a few months back.

Re: Water puddling on the passenger side floor?

I have had this problem a couple of times with my 76'. The first time the water was coming from the cowl area. The factory seam sealer was cracked and deteriated. I covered the seam with some black 3M sealer I got at the auto parts store and that fixed it. A couple of years later it started leaking again. I initially thought it had to be coming from the same area, but it turned out it was coming from the seal around the vent on the passenger side kick panel area.

Use a waterhose and see if you can narrow down where it's coming from.

I try to keep my truck in the garage most of the time now because I'm paranoid that it will spring another leak when it rains!

Re: Water puddling on the passenger side floor?

Thanks Greenlee.

I've done a spray test with the hose and it's defintely coming in when I spray the cowl. From all you guys have said, I'm figuring it's got to be something with the seal behind the hinge or that vent seal.
