3rd brake light

What years had the 3rd brake light? I have an 87 but i dont have one was it an extra option?

I've never seen a 73-87 truck with a third brake light. I did make one for my old 84 finding some red lens, using the cargo light, and wiring it to the brake lights.

Yes it's an option. The 84 that I have now doesn't have one either. I personally like them better without the cargo light. That's why on my old one I turned it into a brakelight.

I saw where one guy mounted red LEDs under the clear lens of his cargo light and then had both a 3rd brake light and a cargo light. That was on a 67-72 truck but it should work on a 73-87 too. I've been thinking about doing that to mine as a rainy day kind of thing.

That is a kit you can do with the 67-72 stock cargo light. I actually asked the company about the size of it. I thought of doing the same thing with my factory bed light. I decided to use a F@rd super duty cargo/third brake light. I had to cut the hole a bit bigger to fit. Here are some pics.
