A 1971 GMC was my first ride
Greetings all! I just stumbled upon this forum while looking for pictures of my dear departed blue '71.
Here are the details I can remember... I received my Grandpa's 71 GMC pickup after his death in Sept of 1982, I was 16 yrs old. I had just started my first job and could afford to pay the insurance. Grandpa had purchased the truck in 1973 from a man in RedBud, IL. It was a barebones truck with hose-out interior and a 350-4bbl. I think the options were Power Steering, AM radio and little else. Grandpa added Power Brakes and proper side mirrors, but left the factory mirrors so it looked a liitle weird. I really loved the truck, but for some reason, I was fixated on getting a Mustang. So I sold the truck for $1500 in Oct 1983 and bought a 1979 Mustang(not even a classic one, what an idiot). I wish I would have had the common sense to hang on to the truck, but I was planning on going away to college in 1984 and 8 mpg was going to be tough to swallow. Well I may get another 71 someday, but for now I'm enjoying looking at the great ones posted here. |
