SB to BB swap ????'s
i"ve been reading some posts on if you move the motor back to the 6 cylinder location it will help w/traction & handling....does this also apply for a BB ???does anyone have any pics of there frame w/BB mounts in them ???what about distributor clearance,valve cover clearance????anyone have any suggestions,tips,tricks,do's & dont's....i will be dropping the beast in this weekend(with professional help)so any suggestion or comments are welcome....thx RED67

I am running my sb in I 6 position, but Im not sure that the BB heads will clear the firewall in that position. The BB mounts do position slightly rearward as compaired to the sb......but not as far back as it would be in I6 position. IMO, on a BB swap you will probably have less headaches if you use the mounts/stands for the BB. Good luck,crazyL

i will be using the 68-71 towers & mounts...i had to take out a loan for those damn towers($72 a peice)so for the mounts & towers I will have a little over $200 in them.....ouch

Try getting a hold of "Orence1" and see if there is anything that he can help you with. He is just about done with this process.
I do know that the big block sits back further than the small block when you use the big block motor mounts. We had to take the drive shaft in and get it shortened. The drive shaft place recommended using small block mounts to keep it the same, not sure about that one. I do know that it fits fine in the big block position but I don't think it would fit at all any further back. Those heads would hit the firewall. That is all that I can think of for now. Good luck.
