Re: Free truck

Not sure how much it would cost to store a truck these days in the MD/DC/NoVa area anymore but as a fellow board member, a fellow military member and formerly working just miles from him @ Andrews AFB (see Air Force One) I'd like to think that I could help him out by pitching a few dollars in his honor so that when he returned from Duty in the Desert he'd have a ride. Either that or I'll pitch in for gas to anyone who might come get it and store it for him.

BTW...not claiming that I actually worked on AF1 just stating fact that AAFB is it's home.

I'm in too. This guy clearly loves this truck, it's been in his family and it was his dad's for some time. I can ship over some parts, if I have anything you guys need. Or, if you go with option 3, I can donate $100 to help pay for storage. We need to take care of our service members. If it were not for them, I would have nothing. My grand-dad flew in bombers as a side gunner over Europe in WWII (was shot down and was a P.O.W.) and my dad was a Navy medic during the Vietnam war. These guys and gals give their lives so we can BS on this forum without fear of being being attacked.

Didn't even realize the truck had a history. Wow. Makes me even more willing to cough up some cash. Hell, I'd turn a wrench on this thing to make it a driver if I could.

Re: Free truck

Unfortunately, someone here (close to his location) is going to have to head this up and go get it (along with the title docs) and either store it for him as is or store it and get it driveable. If he never claims the truck after a year, then you got yourself a truck. If he wants it back after a year, you just helped out a true American hero, not that bad a deal either way. I wish I had room to store it and was close enough to get it and had a trailer. It's going to take just the right person to get this thing and make it work. It would be kinda cool to store it for him and get it running, while posting progress on this forum so he and all of us can follow along.

Re: Free truck

Well Mike said he would pick it up, there's already some willing to donate, so hopefully this thing will keep growing. Let's just keep it up top and see if Mike has been able to contact him. Nice job so far guys.

Re: Free truck

I got a text from him last night, he said that he donated it and they are coming today from 10-1 but I can't get there till 8pm tonight. I'd be willing to get it running, drive it for a year and offer it back to him when he returns. I good for gas money but would need to see what parts are needed. I do have access to a running 5.0 and new tires for pretty cheap.

Re: Free truck

Man,

I hope you get to it before they do. If he donated it to charity they'll probably crush it.... Please keep us informed.

Re: Free truck

Just talked to Drew and he said that the truck is truly a parts truck. Rust thru the firewall and floors so it's probably not worth the effort, however he did thank everyone for the offers. Once he returns from his trip he'll be in the market for a more solid truck.

The charity place will auction the vehicle and donate the money.

Re: Free truck

Sounds like the best result overall, at least it goes to charity to help others.

Good idea, he deserves it, sounded like a real nice guy. He and others like him are the reason we live in the greatest country the world has ever seen.

Re: Free truck

As a sort of random kindness, since he was willing to give his truck away maybe we could piece together one for him upon or near his return. Indirectly I believe he helped someone with the donation of his truck. Maybe we could help him.

Re: Free truck

Maybe post it at front of forum as a project of the forum so that it is always at the top so all can see it right when they enter this site? Also, one person will have to head this up as their pet project and hound us other members for parts, money, advice, etc. Might be a ton of work, but worth it for the right person who has a big soft spot for our soldiers.

Re: Free truck

This would be a good idea if we could find a decent truck from a salvage yard that was in fair to good condition. But the logistics of this would be difficult at best.

1. Whos going to spend the time and money for this.
2. If it was to be done then some kind of account would have to be setup under his name.
3. Setup a place to donate time, parts and/or money for this project.

It's a doable idea if you make up a plan to make it happen for this vet.
