Question
I'm getting ready to restore the frame on my 71 Cheyenne in a few weeks. I'd like to know the correct finish for all the component parts of the chassis,steering, as well as what is supposed to be a natural finish. Can anybody point me in the right direction?

Are you looking to factory resto or just close as possible? I know satin black frame paint is a great match to almost all manufactures.

As close as I can get it to factory. Ive "blackwashed" frames I have worked on in the past with a spray gun and a gallon of black paint but I'd like to put a little more detail into this one. There is a beautiful 71 on Jeff Lilly Restorations' web site that has given me a few pointers

Sem makes a hot rod blac which comes ready to spray just add part A and B it has a nice finish.

just go all out and have it media blasted then powder coat it! It will look the balls!

I live out in the sticks boys there arent any media blasters or powder coaters too close by. I believe I'm gonna blast it in the back yard. Have any of you tried POR-15? How did you like it?

Did you top coat it? I have a POR 15 brochure I got from the store I buy my paint from and POR claims their product is not UV resistant. Ive never used any before but I did buy a quart and I plan on trying it out on some of the small parts soon..possibly this weekend if I can find a break
