Finally found some 15x8'' steel wheels

Well, sorry for a thread about this, but I am stoked that I finally found a set of 15 x 8" steel wheels for my truck rebuild. I happened to be traveling by a junkyard that I stopped by about 4 years ago. At the time they had a couple of military cucv blazers and I asked about the wheels then. The guy said $75 for 4 then, and I just couldn't swing it cause of college, but kept it in the back of mind. Well, today I just took a stab and went back by there. They have since went mostly into recycling metal, but I asked and they had a wheel rack and he pointed to a set of exactly what I was after. Sure enough, he had a set of 4 of the wheels and said, how about $20 a rim, well I said how about $75 for all, and sure enough, I got the set for as much as they quoted me 4 years ago. I am pumped, I have been wanting a set for awhile. Sorry for ranting, but it was a good deal. Trevor

if they still have that real thick paint on them (carc paint) then you'll need a fresh air respirator when you sand them.
I would recomend a pressure washer with a sand blasting attachment, and clean up the mess before the water dries up.

yeah, I will take some pics later today, but I am off for the junk- I mean treasure yards today to spend some quality time with my father. About the wheels, we will be sandblasting them to get the old Military Sand paint off of them.

Andy, do you have a specific company you might direct me to for the pressure washer sand blaster attachment?

I'm not Andy but I do have the info for you. This is the unit I bought and it works great! I blasted my frame and suspension parts with it. It can be messy because of all the water spray but there is no dust whatsoever.

http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/w...&issearch=2260

I got an old cat litter container (the large plastic container) and put a hole in the lid for the pick up and put my media in that. This way it is fairly sealed from water spray and doesn't allow the media to get wet.

Only complaint I have is the extension is a little too long and when attached to your power washer, it makes the overall length a little long. I am going to shorten it to fix that issue. Mainly need to do that if you have a very small area to blast in, which I do.

thank you mike!

The carc paint is very bad stuff. I was never given details, but I was told that gettinly ONLY cancer, would be a good outcome.
It is more than just paint, it is supposed to hold up in a chemical attack.
Normal sandblasting is a very bad idea.

I don't suppose they had any more sets of these wheels? Maybe a pair?

Good info., never heard of that before. Is there a way to identify that carc paint, other then the thickness. What does 'carc' mean...carcenagen?
