47-53 cab to bed distance?

How big of a gap is there from the cab to the box on an AD truck? Can someone with an assembled truck let me know? I'd probably need the measurement in the center of the truck, as the cab is somewhat rounded. Thanks!

I'm too far from my copy of the assembly book to be able to find out but I'd say that if you have it even up and down and the back of the cab and the front of the bed are square to each other and around 3/4 inch apart you should be pretty close.

Actually they can't, or at least mine can't. I have a 49 3800 that was a 9' box truck, that's now sitting on an s10 extended cab frame.... I'm having new box sides bent up at a local metal shop because I can't get myself to cut up the near perfect bed sides of the 9' box (someone restoring one will get this box), and I'm cutting down the running boards and splash guards to fit. I'm ending up with a truck that's between long bed and short bed dimensions.

Mr48chev, in your assembly book did they mention factory tolerances for things like diamond measurements for spring perches and body mounts? My truck is in really pretty good shape and hasn't been wrecked, and it appears that the tolerances weren't very tight (as it was built as a truck), just wanted to know what "acceptable" was back then.

Thanks!

BlueJeep, the shop manual has a multitude of dimensions listed for the chassis to check (no tolerances I can see). Is this what you're looking for? If so let me know and I'll get you an enlarged readable copy.

Close... in the manual for my Willys I have a page like that and then the one before or after gives tolerances for when you're performing the measurements.
