Hey there !
you will have to be be more specific when you say (ROD RUN) because they used to be two of them back to back , the first one #1 grand rod run is sept 3rd 4th 5th this one was one of the best event's you could go to year's ago but now it is just a place where 5 states worth of teenage boy's throw bead's and teenage girl's throw their shirt's up , the street's were once full of 1955 chevy's , 67 to 72 pickup's gallore , camaro's chevelle's , nova's , corvett'e's , YOU NAME IT ! , but now the street's are full of cadillac escalade's , mini van's with sliding side door's to throw beads , DO NOT GO TO THIS ONE !!!!!!!!!!!!! #2 THE SHADES OF THE PAST ROD RUN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HECK YEA I WILL BE THERE FROM WED THE 9TH THRU THE 13TH !!!!!!!!!! BIG SWAP MEET , THOUSANDS OF CARS AND TRUCK's , BIG CAR SHOW , NIGHTIME CRUZING IN THE STREET's OF PIGEON FORGE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I WILL BE IN MY 67 CAMARO

Re: is anybody going to the rod run in pigeon forge?
Man I wish I could go. I was there last year for the Shades of the Past weekend. Great time. We were there on vacation and just so happened it was that weekend. Didn't really plan it that way. Miles of cars parked along the main drag. I was blown away.

Re: is anybody going to the rod run in pigeon forge?
The GRAND ROD RUN is Sept 17,18,19. I know because I just got my room yesterday. But if you have never been you will enjoy it, I think of it as one big Hot Rod car lot. Almost every car that you will see will have a for sale sign on it, and will be askin some crazy price. I'll be the with the wife and kid.

Re: is anybody going to the rod run in pigeon forge?
Well, I live here, and yes, I'll be out in the whole mess. BOTH weekends!
The Shades of The Past show is held the second weekend of Sept. which will be the 11th and 12th(It's over Saturday evening). The show itself is in a field on a back road. It has a decent swap meet and a pretty good vendor selection. It used to be mainly a street rod show(pre-48) then they opened it up to 1972 last year or the year before(I can't remember). The show is better and the atmosphere is better. The Grand Rod Run is always on the third weekend of Sept. which will be the 17-20th. The show itself is limited to the size of the showgrounds. There's only room for about 250 or so vehicles. Due to the limited number, most of the cars there are simply stunning. There's not much of a swap meet. It's mostly vendors selling new stuff. The cars are great, but the show itself and the atmosphere aren't quite as nice as the Shades. On both weekends, the entire strip(about 4 miles long, if that) are slammed full of cars parked along the side of the roads. Most are car dealers trying to make a BIG buck or individuals trying to sell theirs. Others are just people parking at their motels and just happen to get there in time to get a good spot. On Friday and Saturday nights is cruising. Cruising at the Shades is more relaxed, and you see alot more classics and just plain cool cars riding around. Because of the more mature crowd at the Shades, the local fuzz isn't as quick to get you for stuff. Cruising at the Grand, well, that's a different story. Thrursday and Friday nights are the better times to cruise that weekend. It's more street machines and muscle cars and it tends to be a little more exciting. Saturday nights are getting to the point of being rediculous. It's mostly late model muscle, sport compacts, 4x4's, and big hot rod deisel trucks. There's a few classics riding around, but not much. It's a younger and more immature crowd. Alot of tire spinning and engines revving, guys running around with $50 worth of beads just to see some titties, girls running around showing them for beads, people just simply acting fools, etc., etc. If you want to see cool classic cars, attend a decent car show and cruise the strip with ease, come to the Shades run. If you like to watch people act stupid, watch the cops hassle stupid punks, and just watch wild mayhem, the Grand run is the one for you.
