headers

got a 70 c-10 that i put a 400sbc into,i had a set of dynamax headers laying around that i put on.i have alum heads on and the # 3 plug wouldnt go in untill i dinged the header.and even then the boot will be touching the header.my question is,is there headers that have the angle in so i can use them or whats the limit in dinging the header more.im just worried about putting a hole in the header or the boot cracking from the heat.thanks

Have you tried Accel shorty plugs. They are suppose to give you more clearance for the boot, since they are about 1/2" shorter.

I've never run those headers. But I've run the cheapest headers known to modern man: Summit Headers! Although it is tight around that #3 plug, it's always fit for me and I've never burned a boot... fingers? Heck yes! But boots? no...

You can ding the headers more if you heat them with a propane torch, which is what I did to mine. if the boots are touching the header, they will still last a long time, but eventually the boot rubber will get burned off. Try the shorter plug and maybe a 45 or 90 degree boot. I think I read that Champion also makes some shorter plugs.

my #5 was touching and I used , shorty plugs, straight boot wires and protective sleeves, its a pain but between all 3 its worked out well, you can also buy ceramic boot wire sets that are rated to withstand high temps but they are a bit expensive I havent heard anyone that has used them so dont know how well they work, good luck

i tried the ac delcos but way too long,i found ngks that were shorter.ive heard too many bad things about the accel shorty plugs not to mention there twice the money.im gonna heat it up and ding it abit more.thanks.
