O.k., So a few months ago I had my spine surgery...i've got about 4-5 weeks left until I have a CT scan to find out whether my spine is fused or not. Well, I've got a complete frame off project going on on the side. But, that's about as far as I can go as it seems that the bolts on the shocks, trac bar and trailing arms won't budge. I've got about a 1 1/4 long breaker bar that I can't do much more then use upper body strength and liquid wrench..and it's not doing me much good. What all do you use to tear your frame down to get it ready for sand blasting?

"Wow" i wish you a speedy recovery. Some of those bolts can be a real bear to get off. Leverage is the key. Go big on your wrenches and use a cheater bar if you can. They will come off. I took my frame down to the bare minimum. If you are changing from a standard trann to an automatic i would take off that crossmember. They are rivited in, so you will have to drill them out. Also get primer or paint on it soon after sandblasting because it turn a pinkish color(rust) in a matter of days. Good luck with your build.

Torch.....no really....just applying heat will usually do the trick and you should be able to loosen them....and if not, use the torch to cut the bastards off.....

Can you get a air impact wrench on them? Thats what I would use.

I'd love to, but I honestly don't have an air compressor. I'd really like to save up some $$$ to get a large 60-80 gal one so I could use it later for painting = \

find an wlecgric 12v impact wrench. Mine gets 350ftlb of torque, that should bust the mothers off
and speedy recovery on the surgery

Go buy you some PB blaster penetrating oil. They will come right off

Air impact wrench works best, and take your time don't over work yourself doing more than you should I had a Lumbar Fusion 5yrs ago & have 4 titanium screw's/rods what ever you want to call them in my back and trust me we can get a little carried away thinking nothing of it and over working our backs because we don't feel any pain at the time but later you will fill it.. I wish you a speedy recovery.....

Hey fellow broken back buddies. I have an electric impact that has come in very handy when you dont have an air compressor around.
Five spinal surgeries have slowed me down, but I keep on getting up, although i get up v-e-r-y- s-l-o-w-l-y.

Pace yourself, dont try and do too much. It will come back later to haunt you, then even the pain meds wont help.

I have found that a 4" side grinder with a cut-off wheel works wonders! When I began tearing my frame down I bought a handful of cut-off wheels and I've been back to the supply house multiple times to get more.. If you're gonna replace the bolts anyway and they're fighting ya, just clip em off.

If you're doing it on the cheap, a longer lever helps. I always keep a piece of pipe around to slide on my breaker bar. Be careful you can snap a socket-busted knuckles! All good answers above, but I prefer PB powerblaster and/or heat(propane torch)....black sockets are stronger

Bought my son an electric impact wrench for Christmas, and he told me he couldn't believe how strong it was
