Help fast, please
Replacing the carrier bearing on a 72 LWB w/2-piece D.S.
Would like to do it tonight, but I need the truck tomorrow. Is it a press fit? If so, maybe I'll wait. Thanks |

Tight one's might need and puller, like a gear puller. There is a bolt thet holds the 2 pcs together, you need to loosen that but don't take it out, it's a b___h to get back in right. You should be able to knock it out in an hour.

Sorry for the late reply, but the inline bearing is a press fit but it's a loose one. I can pull it off with a set of 2-jaw pullers, and I can tap it back on with a piece of steel pipe and a cap that fits both on the inner race of the bearing AND over the end of the driveshaft where the yoke goes.
I originally made the mistake of having the bearing pressed on at the machine shop because I didn't think I could get it on. I found out later I could do it myself. The press isn't a tight one.
