Question Tech Help

My PG was making some racket as I shift tranny into gear, put it on my lift and pulled inspection cover off flywheel and 3 nuts and bolts came tumbling out all chewed up. When I replace them this weekend I need to know how much torque to apply to bolts so they stay put. These bolts and nuts mount the converter to the fly wheel. Anyone know the answer.......................Thanks.....Kirby

i just tightened the crap out of mine
if they're not lock nuts then put some lock-tite on them

Yeah - me too. The manual says something like 35 foot pounds, but I put some of the red stuff on them and using two ratchet box end wrenches - put up as much strain as I could without rounding the Grade 8 fasteners off.

check the flexplate for cracks also around the bolt holes

This is one time I'll agree with Ron. If your bolts are chewd up then something else is to. If the flexplate is cracked it can start popping witch can sound kinda like a motor knock.

Ron maybe you can help me the torque converter seems to be about 1/2 in away from flex plate and when I attempt to bolt the two together the bolts are not long enough to connect to the nuts. Is the converter supposed to move forward to meet the flywheel? and if so how does one get it to move? Does it matter which ears go to what hole?.........Kirby

if you lift the convertor up a bit and push it towards the flywheel it should go together. the is a pilot stub on the front of the convertor that should slip into the crankshaft to centre it. it doesn't matter where the bolts line up
