Burb seat issues

Just thinking,,,
I would guess that all burbs would have the holes in the rear to mount a 2nd, 3rd row seat.

I picked up a 2cnd row seat and only one of the rear brackets lined up to mount with the body. I have some extra seat feet and put them up to the rear of the seat frame while it was in the truck and not even close.

Front brackets matched up fine.

Anyone else have this issue?

Thanks

Re: Burb seat issues

Smitty,

I've run into the same problem, the way the seats mounted must have changed somewhere between 67 and 72. My Suburban is a 72 and has the original front and 2nd seats in it along with two more seats from an earlier Burb. The earlier seat brackets are different and aren't spaced the same as the factory bolt holes for the 3rd seat. I'm not at home right now or I'd take some measurements for you.

Re: Burb seat issues

Here are the pics,

1st one shows the brackets being way off in the middle, now the seat is in the far left rear hole and the front brackets mount up.

2. This pic shows the far right bracket that I changed with a spair, and the bolt hole is still off by over 1/4 inch.

Suggestions?

Need a seat that will work......

Re: Burb seat issues

Did your truck orginally come with a full bench as the second seat?

Re: Burb seat issues

If your burb didnt have the third bench the second seat is wider...no need to slide past it to get to the third seat.

Any way you can show a picture with a wider view...hard for me to get the perspective on this one.

Re: Burb seat issues

i like the full second row seat option. my dad's 72 burb had the full 2 rows and my "new" 72 burb is equipped the same. my dad installed a back seat from a same era blazer as a third row seat. my plans call for an 80's third row seat upholstered to match the factory interior. i will find a way to install the floor brackets for the newer seat. that way it is a simple flip and unplug job to pull the seat for extra cargo space. will worry about a 60/40 middle bench in the distant future.

Re: Burb seat issues

I just went through a PITA 3rd seat install on my burb. What I found while crawling under the truck was that the brace that the seats bolt into, as well as the seat belts, appears to be drilled for several seat brack positions, but only the holes in use had the nut welded to them, and of course the wood was only drilled in the needed locations. After measuring up, and figuring out which holes were the right ones for the seat i was installing, I drilled from the bottom up and got the correct holes. I then had to tack weld my own nuts to the holes, being careful not to set the truck on fire (also right near the fuel tank!).
I figure i'll have to fabricate the seat front hold down brackets, as original ones are scarce as hen's teeth, and no ones else makes them.
Whats interesting is that I installed a wide second seat in a truck that originally had a narrow second seat, and now i have 4 seat belted positions in the second row. To get to the third seat, which only kids want to sit in, you have to jump over the seat, but no one seems to mind. In fact, the teens prefer it, as it is far away from the adults, and sit in the way back even if the second seat is empty.
