New Project - '72 GMC 1/2 ton 115wb

Hey everyone -

I guess I should introduce myself:
NW Florida Born and Bred
University of Florida Alumnus and Rabid Gator Fan!
I recently graduated from Law School and I am waiting on my Bar results (Sept. 21)

Enough about that, on to the reason I am here. I just purchased my first project truck this evening:

$900
'72 GMC C1500
Runs great but doesn't stop so well (brakes will be my first project).
Some rust, but nothing major.
From what I can tell, the previous owner put a 350sb in it and an automatic tranny with a floor shifter (I would like to put this back in the column eventually). I don't know much of the history because it was sold to me by the previous owner's widow and she just wanted to get rid of it. It had been sitting in her backyard for about 5 years. I was amazed that all it took was some jumper cables, some gas, and starter fluid to fire it up.

I have never worked on a vehicle before in my life but have always wanted 'an old truck' - so I am going to be learning from the ground up. Looks like the boards are super active with lots of great ideas and help.

I look forward to many frustrations and exciting milestones with you guys!

How can I tell if my new toy is a Super Custom or a Sierra?

to the board and congrats on the education milestone. Hope your bar results come back positive..

The truck looks pretty nice. I'm sure you will enjoy tinkering with it and you should get some great ideas from the guys and gals on here....

The FAQ section is a great area to get aquainted with and here is how you get to it:

There is a lot of different information in the FAQ forum. Scroll down to the bottom of this page and you will see the "Forum Jump" box. Click on the little down arrow on the right side of the box and scroll down to "FAQ Truck Tech". On that page go down to "Thread / Thread Starter: FAQ Index thread". When you get into that scroll through the different sections and you will find answers to questions you haven't even thought of yet....

I could have just posted a direct link but there is a lot of good info in the FAQ section and now the people that read this thread will know how to get to it. Thanks to Krue for indexing the FAQ's

You might want to check out the "Projects and builds" forum for some good info too.

Welcome to the site.
Congratulations on the great looking truck. Nothing like bringing home a new(old) toy.
