cab ????

at what point would you guys consider a cab total loss and start looking for a replacement. im in a situation of having to put new cab corners, floor pans, rockers, and thats just lookin at it with out having it removed from the chassis. i might find even more i need to replace once i get into it a little more. so i guess my Q is should i dump the money in this cab or find a good one.

How far from Michigan are you willing to travel for a good cab?? My guess is all the cabs in your area are about the same as yours, so you need to figure cost of repair to yours, and cost to buy and retrieve a good cab somewhere else. Body panels aren't all that expensive....it's the labor to install if you can't do it yourself. You may only have $250.00 in sheet metal to repair yours.

As long as the firewall, cab supports and window channels are in good shape, I would try to fix it.

even if you find another cab in your area you'll probably have to do some repairs to it too... patches are pretty cheap and if you've got the tools you should do it yourself. I know I will be, mostly because I'm not doing the total resto thing and see no point in ruining a great cab that might be more appropriate for true restoration.

I meant to bring up the fact that anything else you find would most likely need some repair too. A true rust free cab is gong to cost a LOT, and be far from home! Seke69... where in the Twin Cities are you?? Is that TC MN?

yours sounds real nice compared to mine:

1)large gaping hole where roof meets driver door.
2)front of inner roof is gone
3)dash on passenger side is completely rusted and apart from the pillar
4)extra large hole next to master cylinder (looks factory but it really is a rust hole)
5)both rockers are shot
6)both cab corners are shot
7)hole on firewall above heater box

so.....in other words, mine is a "total loss"

weird rust

My truck was Ziebarted when it was new or relatively new, and maybe it helped in a few aspects. I guess my original rockers were shot, because the replacements that I have now are shot too. Cab corners are shot. Floorpan is immaculate...I have no idea why. Its original too. Both front floor supports are shot, and there is maybe a tiny spot of rust thru on the lower corner of one of the bed wheelwells. Door bottoms a little rusty. There is a small spot on the engine side of the firewall where the chalkmarks are. And then there are my kick panels. They are toast. Not just the bottom by where it meets the floor, I mean where the vent is they are rusted out. I guess I need patches bad. I don't wanna scrap my cab, its in good shape otherwise, plus I'd have to find another clearance lamp cab, which would be harder to do. This sounds bad, but is good for Ohio (and thats because the truck is from Minnesota!).
