Tracking down wiper gremlins

Everybody with the wacky wiper gremlins please respond to this post. I'm trying to track this thing down to a single part.

1. Does your windshield washer pump work?
2. Have you done anything to get rid of it so far?
3. Did it go haywire while you owned it or did you buy the truck like that?
3. A. If it died while you owned the truck, what were you doing with it?
4. Does the rest of the wiper systems work?

My experience is that the windshield washer pump die while I was using it causing the "wack wiper syndrom". The rest of my wipers work, but there isn't much of a delay any more, either really slow (10-15 sec) or almost no delay ( < 1 sec.). No in between. Just trying to track this thing down!

my washers work once and a while, I think I am just gonna pick up a replacement pump one day soon, I hope. Also my wipers some times when I turn them off dont wanna go back down they just stay there. oh well

Yep bad on both the 75 and 79. I just bought a replacement stand alone electric. $12. The power wires from the stock pump work fine.
The 75 doesn't always want to park the wipers when I turn it off. Previous owner had wired in a aftermarket intermitiant and boggered up the iwres in the process.
The 79 has factory intermitant that more intermitant than not. It also have something flaky in either the switch or the modual. slam the door and they wipe once. release the parking brake and they wipe once. good pot hole and the wipe once LOL.
We just wrote it off as the charms of an old truck.

Mine is an 82 with a dash mounted switch. It isn't as bad as it used to be. I replaced the intermitent dash switch and intermittent controller with just a standard non-intermittent switch. That took care of it just going off anytime it pleased. Second problem was getting it to park when I shut them off. I have an aftermarket inner fender mounted W/Washer pump. I wired it into the regular harness so it would work off the switch. This didn't work because washer pump gear had a bad tooth and it wouldn't let it make a complete revolution to the end of the cycle which I beleive prevented it from parking. I ended up installing a separate momentary switch for the washers. I then helped the washer pump solonoid turn the gear to the end of the cycle. With it at the end of the w/washer cycle and the washer plug still plugged in, my wipers now park correctly everytime.
Sometime in the near future I'm going to bite the bullet and buy a new intermittent controller and a new wiper motor with the new washer pump already installed to restore my intermittent system

When I bought mine, they guy had wired a switch under the dash for the washer system only because the lever mounted switch no longer works. the wipers will cycle a few times when I turn on the ignition, other than that, the wipers work fine with the column switch.

So to sum it all up, the column lever works the wipers, and the dash mounted switch that is rigged, runs the washer pump.

I was in the process of changing out the column lever, but I ran into a snag pulling the column apart. I need a tool for the lock ring.
