correct VIN plate rivets

Anybody know where to buy them? I think I saw a supplier on the HAMB a good while back, but I can't find it anymore.
thanks

Re: correct VIN plate rivets

If you mean the star head looking ones for the vin, (the others listed here are just for the TRIM tags which are different) Trim Tags has them. They don't list them on their site but they have them. Give them a call and ask for some "rossette rivits" I think they are $25 a pair.

Re: correct VIN plate rivets

thanks for the link, the Tag off my truck has been sitting in my parts box for the past 25 years. It is so beat up and painted over that it is hard to tell what it is at first glance.

Smile Re: correct VIN plate rivets

Here are some pics. I think they started using these rivits on vin tags in the early 60s at the latest. I have seen some 50s stuff that were installed with spot welds. The TRIM tags used this barrel looking rivit. If you are talking about a mid 60s pickup, I think you have a stainless vin tag on the driver windshield or door post. Is that correct?
I think the reason they don't list them on their site is because some people get their panties in a bunch whenever you mention touching a VIN TAG. LOL!

Re: correct VIN plate rivets

The image I posted was from Chevy Duty, Classic Parts or whatever they call themselves these days listing. Even at $8.95 a pair that's some pricey rivets.

Re: correct VIN plate rivets

We sell those for $2.50 each they were used on Ford and Gm.

You can make your own rosette using a stainless rivet. Just cut the little curfs in them

Re: correct VIN plate rivets

I'm sorry. I didn't realize which forum I was in! I saw your avitar and automatically thought "63 or 64".
Sorry for the confusion.
The pics I posted are from my 66 Impala. They were just for reference of what GM was using for the vin and the data, or cowl tags in the 60s.

Re: correct VIN plate rivets

Go to the Trim Tags website. I believe they had a "how to" on installing the barrel style rivits. I think they even sell an installation tool.

Re: correct VIN plate rivets

I guess it will be epoxy on the other one, like they stated.

Thanks for the info.

Or we could all get together and buy the $17 tool and simply forward it to the next guy who needs it.

actually, I think they only offer it for $17 if you also order a new custom trim tag.
I did find this though....
http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...:X:AAQ:CA:1123
It's item number: 350236731593 in case that link doesn't work.
It includes a tool and four rivets. If you look in his store, he has a bunch of different rivets either $25 or $31 but they all look the same to me. I wonder if they're different diameter? I sent him a question. I'll let you know what he says.

actually, you don't need access to the back side. See the dome area in the middle? You just flatten that out with the tool, or just use a correct sized bolt, then it spreads the barrel on the back side. Make sense?
