Sounds like somebody might have left the bolt in the front of the block after they installed the fuel pump. Check to make sure theres a short bolt and not a long bolt in where the rod retainer bolt is. PS,put thread seal on after checking. That things a pretty solid shaft of metal, never heard of anyone bending or breaking one until now.
