I put new door checks on by 63 after having it painted because the old ones were rather crusty. Well about a week and a half later I had the truck sitting on a hill and the driver's side door swung open on me as I was getting out. The new door check snapped at the pin on the A pillar and now I have a nice ding where the door hit the fender. I got the checks from either LMC or Classic, but I don't remember which one. My point here is that if you have them make sure you check them for premature wear. I took both of them off and the holes in both of them are already elongated (this is after about three months.) I am in the process of replacing the flat bar part that connects to the A pillar with some flat stock steel. Just thought I would pass this along.

Thanks...I'll be replacing mine soon and will fix them before they go in the truck. I also spent a day banging out the dents from PO damage...sorry to hear about the mishap.

I used home made plastic coated cables controlled by a spring for my old truck, and am going to do the same thing on C20. It will be a while but if I can remember I will post pics when I do.

I think you will find this same quality problem with aftermarket door checks no matter where you buy them. The material is just too soft. I had two aftermarket sets do the same thing, although I discovered the weakness before the door was damaged.

I sourced original NOS door checks from EBay and they hold the door open much better and show no wear. I don't know why the aftermarket can't just make things identical to the originals. Same problem with outside door handles - I had to fit washers into the handle to keep the buttons from sticking inside the housing when depressed. The OEM handle certainly didn't do that.

Yep...................When I was doing my rebuild I saw some of those aftermarket door stops and wasn't too impressed by them. I just reused my old ones after giving them a good going over................nothing worse than new paint and a big ding on your cowl panel....................Hemmit

I've had the same problem. I'm going to try the Jeep Cherokee rear door checks soon as I get to the pick-a-part. I've not seen one yet so can't vouch for the construction quality, but they can't be any worse than the aftermarket ones.

There was a thread going in the other forum about using jeep door stops. They were for the rear doors but I lost the part #. They were also dual position stops and acually held the doors.
