No Start

Pulled the truck out of the garage today to move the motorcycles out, moved the bikes, then pulled it back in. I shut it off and went to take the key out, and the ignition cylinder wouldnt go into the lock position, but the key came out. I put the key back in and tried to start it, but now there is nothing at all. I'm not in the greatest mood and this isnt helping, and the wiring diagrams I have suck, so I've just kinda put it aside for now. I dont even know where to start, I've not had to diagnose a no-start in years. Any suggestions where to start looking?

Re: No Start

sounds to me like its prolly the ignition switch and not necessarially a wiring issue

Re: No Start

It does not turn over at all. I do not have a tilt steering column in my truck. I was looking at how to remove the ignition switch and could not figure it out.

Re: No Start

Well same thing happened to my 73. It wouldn't turn over at all and when I would tilt the steering wheel it would turn on and them eventually it didn't. But there is a pin inside the steering colum that broke and the little pin was when you turn the key it would make contact to turn on but it broke. Took the whole steering colum off he truck and my mechanic fixed it for 80 I'll try an find the little pin I'm talking about

Re: No Start

Well, went and messed around with it more. I thought I had figured out how to remove the ignition cylinder. I saw a tab at the bottom that I could push in with a pick, so I figured it was like a spring loaded lock or something, except I could not get the cylinder out still. So I lightly tapped it with a hammer and the pick, still couldnt get it out, but now the truck starts.... I dont know whats going on, but the problem is definatly in the ignition cylinder.

Re: No Start

get a steering wheel puller and pull the wheel off
then you get a snap ring plier and while pushing on the round piece you pull off the ring that holds it in place ( there is a specialty tool for this) then you fold off the turn signal switch after removing the lever
once you do that you gave access to the clips or screws holding in the ignition key hole
