2-Part Control Arms Question

Part A - I'm in a frame off project and starting to re-assemble my suspension to my frame. I had my control arms powdercoated. I don't want any squeaks etc when re-assembled. How do I know if I need to replace the shafts of my control arms? Any tell-tell signs to look for?

Part B - How do those shafts come out of the control arms? I'm assuming they screw off of the ends. The powder coater really laid the powder to these and probably are stuck in place. Any particular method of removing\replacing the shafts?

Thanks Guys - I really appreciate you.

Re: 2-Part Control Arms Question

best I can tell yea is change them out now it's alot easier than after your done putting it together.....as far as the powder coating I would take a hack saw blade and cut the powder coating clean then UNSCREW one end at a time and change them out he must have had a hell of a time with the old grease in the arms coming out during the heating??? anyway you can just touch out the new ends with some paint and put some good grease in them

If your in this deep you alreadt knew this just needed a kick in the pants..lol

Yes, they screw out.
Now, the bad news. They can be a ***** to to unscrew. Some heat and an impact gun are your best bet. (yep, I know you had them powdercoated already)
You should replace them... IMO.

Re: 2-Part Control Arms Question

Find another powdercoater. Your guy is a hack.

There are rubber seals on the shaft for the bushings. He should have stripped the arm of all components prior to coating them. You now have an arm with bushings with cooked grease seals and dried grease cooked inside of the bushings.

Sorry if I seem confrontational, but I can't stand to read things like this. It gives powdercoating a bad rap and that hits me personally.

I've seen more than one guy post up pics of their freshly coated parts & the BJ's/bushings were still installed. I thought why would someone compromise something like the finish on a part (a part they just did!). I can't stand it either & I'm not a coater .

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.
