No more POS plastic window crank handles

I finally got tired of the knob popping off the plastic window crank handles yesterday and decided to try a spare set of older GM metal window crank handles with plastic knobs that I had sitting around.

They slip right on but don't have enough hole depth to allow the clip ring to engage the groove on the truck window crank assembly.

Simple fix with a die grinder. All I had to remove was the snout and tapered area beyond the splines. It was a little tough getting them on without the chamfer but I figured it was better to have more spline engagement than to have less and a chamfer.

Fit like a glove and look like they belong on there.

Re: No more POS plastic window crank handles

Thanks.

The more I see the older handles on there the more I wonder why they ever changed the design.

It was probably 50 cents cheaper to make them out of plastic.

The next step is to figure out what older smooth contoured all metal outer door handle will fit on there. That sharp edge plastic button outer door handle is the one thing that bugs me the most about the squares.

I have some spares from my old 67 C-10 that I will mess around with to see what can be easily done. If they don't work I have a spare set from my 68 Camaro that may work better button location & design wise to try as well.
