4X4 to 2WD Swap
Alright,
Well I might have found too good an offer on 71 (I believe) short box 4x4. Now, I don't want a 4x4, I am curious as the the steps/requirments to transform a 4x4 frame/chassis into a 2wd one. Is it just a matter of swaping the front components? I'm looking for an in depth explanation as I'm seriously consider purchasing the truck because of the deal i'm getting on it. Can someone also tell me the year that this truck is: |

That grille is 1969 or 1970 only. Good score.

Re: 4X4 to 2WD Swap
I believe you just need to swap in a regular 2 WD front cross member and steering/suspension from anything up to an 87. You will need to do something with the tranny cross member and the transmission will need to be swapped for a 2 wd unit. The rear springs will be tall and at the very least swapped for a lower set. Personally I'd just shorten a regular frame from a long bed 72 with rear coils and bolt it under. It's easy to do and you can easily sell a real 4 x 4 rolling frame.

Personally, since you only want a 2WD, I'd take the great deal, clean it up/fix as needed, and sell it for a tidy profit..... then buy a nice 2WD truck.

Re: 4X4 to 2WD Swap
From what I understand locating a 4 x 4 of this year is a lot harder to come by then a 2wd one. I can say for my location there's not many of them around. Do what makes you happy, but like above i'd clean it up and sell it..or keep it.

Yep short 4X4's are worth some coin especially if in near original shape, and 2wd shorts are not too expensive. Just my 2 cents worth.

Re: 4X4 to 2WD Swap
Keep it a 4x4, you can sell it for more and find a short 2wd.
