Re: I Want To Remove Paint From a V8 Intake Manifold
If I send it to anyone it flatly costs too much. I'd just buy a new intake for $100 online instead. I was only interested in blasting because I already own a little Craftsman blaster as stated above.
One thing I have found for stripping paint FAST and completely on home painting projects is fuel injector cleaner! On some 80 year old furnace screens I had with tons of trim paint on them was to immerse them for about an hour in injector cleaner I bought at OSH. The paint came off in sheets. I am concerned what it might do to aluminum....but afterall, an intake manifold IS a part of a fuel system. It SEEMS like it should be able to withstand an immersion. Thoughts/opnions? |

I've used carb cleaner to get the paint off an engine block.

Re: I Want To Remove Paint From a V8 Intake Manifold
Something else to consider is using wheat starch to remove the paint.
We use wheat starch to remove paint on composite parts and little to no damage is done to the composite component. Many boat hull strippers use this method to strip old paint off boat hulls. It is very similar to soda but am told is not as damaging.
