Rear end options?
Ok, for my 71. My engine (496) is sitting on the dyno waiting for a carb. then it will be ready. I just got my 400 and 205 put together. Again ready to go in.
Currently i have a big hub dana 44 front which measures about 70" wms. I have a 14 bolt rear in it but dont know how wide it is. Both 4.10 Today i traded a 454 for a Dana 60 front and dana 70 rear. 4.10 gears. Dually. I need single wheel hubs for the front. I know this. Then im guessing it will measure out to 70". any body confirm this? Question of the day is should i mess with the D70 or just leave the 14 bolt in? The D70 measures 73" Widths, widths widths...anybody got ideas what would look cool? I wouldnt really gain anything strenghtwise, but its an option and when i have options i tend to over think them!

Re: Rear end options?
Ive heard ( meaning I dont know from experience, but have been told by some people I trust) that the 14 bolt is nearly as strong if not stronger (in some respects) than the 70 and WAY easier to work on.. Parts are everywhere for the 14bolt as well.. I guess the benifits of the 70 would be strength and ground clearance.. I hear gearing selection is something to weigh as well. Hope this helps. There is a ton more of info on pirate4x4 regarding the d70 vs 14bff..

Re: Rear end options?
If you run H1 wheels you can run the bud wheel hubs on the front.Just a thought.
14b is plenty strong enough out back.

Re: Rear end options?
I understand that d70s and 14bolts are comparativaly in strength. I have a narowed 14 bolt with a spool in my jeep. I was just having an option to change around width and was wondering if anybody had a suggustion.

Re: Rear end options?
You can just unbolt the dually hub extensions from the front and change wheel studs if I remember correctly. You can narrow the dually rear axle with single rear wheel hubs. Ford had some SRW dana 70's I think or Dodge diesel hubs and brakes.

Re: Rear end options?
alot of people want the wider rear, it will make you rear tires stick out an inch or so more than the front, if you keep your 14 bolt it will be the oppisite. You 14 bolt will have a width of about 67" if it is a single wheel axle.

Re: Rear end options?
If you are going to put single wheel hubs on the Dana 60 than I would keep the 14 bolt so that the tires sit the same place they are now. If you were talkin a dually conversion than thats another story.
