Is anyone using a trans cooler like this one? Are these any better than the standard ones ?

From my attempting to weld on Aluminum it will transfer heat to the entire object opposed to steal which will let you heat up one spot. Finally got the spot to heat up and weld then all of the sudden, puddle. hahahahaha

I'm guessing Alluminum transfers heat better and probably costs more, but I guess its the matter of is it worth it or not?

It's kinda hard to tell fropm the small pic, but that looks like a frame mount oil cooler. Is that correct? And what do you mean by 'better than a standard one'? Are you referring to the factory style that are in the radiator tank?

Yea, its a frame mounting cooler. What I mean is does the aluminum cooler cool better than the standard cooler? Heres a better pic.

It depends on what you're doing with your truck. The standard front mounted cooler will do a better job of cooling the oil. The frame mounted ones are more for vehicles that don't generate a lot of heat in the transmission. BTW most trans coolers are constructed of aluminum whether they are a frame mount or a front mount.

I dont see myself using my truck for any type of towing. Just drive it like I stole it type driving. LOL. I've heard though that too much cooling will effect the shifts.

ive seen first hand that not enough cooling will effect shifts also. as in it wont shift anymore..... lol

I've had both and each has its advantages and disadvantages.

The standard in-front-of-the radiator unit is very secure and is easily installed - downside: got to keep it clean and/or it decreases the cooling efficiency of your radiator in the area it covers.

The frame mounted unit has a huge amount of over-all cooling area and doesn't restrict the coolant radiator - downside: harder to install, you've got to shield it somehow from stuff that gets kicked up off the highway, and sucks at cooling when the vehicle's not moving.

(oh, and the frame unit can leak your juice out on the road and you'll never know until your tranny dies a horrible death. If the standard one leaks the fluid will more-than-likely hit an exhaust component and smoke profusely.)
