engine question

i have a 235cid strait

it sputters on the freeway only in 3rd gear, HIGH rpm in 1st and 2nd ok but even moderate cruizing speeds in 3rd sputter what could do this?"

Clean up (or replace) and reset the points. Try new plugs and wires. Check exesive wear or cracks on the the rotor and cap on the distributor.

try changing the fuel filter. After that see if your screen on your sender is not clogged. That would be in the tank.

OK... Try changing the fuel filter. You don't even have to change it. Just take it off and blow through it and see if is restricted or not. YOu should be able to blow through it like a straw. Wipe it off first of course.
