350 to 700R4 swap
I have a 1972 k10 that I will be swapping out the th350 for a 700R4 on it.
I will be going with the spacer from A & Reds, grinding off the shafts and moving my 205 TC back a couple of inches. My questions are: A) do I need a 4X4 700R4 or will a 2X4 work? B)I read that 86-91 years 700R4 will work best, is this correct. |

Re: 350 to 700R4 swap
I put a 700r4 in my Blazer, I got the trans from Bowtie overdrive, and had them install a conversion output shaft that let me bolt it directly in place of the th350. I opted to leave the transfercase in place, and moved the engine ahead.

Re: 350 to 700R4 swap
I am doing the same now to my 67 panel. If you are going to buy a ready to go 700r4, you will need the spacer. This means that the 205 will need to be moved back causing driveshafts to be cut and legthened, your column shift linkage will need to be modified, transfercase shifter will need to be modified to come up in the right place and the pivot on the frame for the column shift will need to be relocated. I had my trans built with the adapter shaft, moved my engine forward 1 7/8 inches and everything else lines up. Just my .02 cents, but the moving forward seems alot easier and even allows a little more clearance at the distributer. All you need to do is drill 8 new holes at the engine cradle. Good luck on your build. You will need to add a 4th gear trans lockup kit and summit racing has a geometric compensater for the downshift (detent cable) that goes on the carberator butterfly. The shaft is made by advance adapters but is actually $20 cheaper at Summit. Any Questions gimme a call !

Re: 350 to 700R4 swap
After reading your replies I going to move my engine foward instead and have the shaft swap on the 700r4 instead of the spacer. Thank you guys for the replies, Love this forum!

Re: 350 to 700R4 swap
The t-case adapter for the 205 will bolt to a th350 or a 700r4, so you don't have to change it.
The out put on a 4x4 700r4 is 2 inches longer than the th350s so if a person isn't or can't change to the conversion output then you have to use a 2 inch spacer between the trans and the adapter.

Re: 350 to 700R4 swap
P.S. I just had to purchase an adjustable throttle cable /carb bracket. This also has the hookup for the TV cable. Summit has it for $8.95. I tried the other cables and it seems this setup will work out the best and uses the original 72 4x4 cable. I installed this setup into my 67. I'm not sure what to do with the earlier linkages for the gas pedal.
