brakes and wheel cylinders

Where can I buy a good set of front wheel cylinders for my 69 GMC 1/2 ton? The last ones I bought from autozone and they haven't held up. I would also like to find some with a standard sized bleeder valve, that is to say not-metric. Further I would like to find a set that allows the bleeder valve to be reached easier. With these and my last set I can hardly get a wrench in there to bleed them. Thanks for your thoughts

I got a set from "Manny,Moe and Jack" that had not been tapped for the mounting bolts.I took them back and went to a local "Mom and Pop"Carquest franchise store and got good ones. They lasted until I did a disc upgrade(about4 year)

Re: brakes and wheel cylinders

The primary customers of both NAPA and Carquest are professional repair shops, so their parts tend to be of higher quality than the other auto parts stores.

Re: brakes and wheel cylinders

Ditto on NAPA. All my brakes were done with AZ parts, but had to get NAPA hoses to be able to turn the bleeder screws. Also, don't get AZ Headlight switches for 68, plug wont fit into the ceramic balast resistor, notch not big enough. From now on, my parts are coming from NAPA. Good luck, Jim

Re: brakes and wheel cylinders

Most all the big chain stores carry diff grades for the same part. Sometimes you will have to ask. They should ask you. We sell all the same parts as Oriellys,Autozone,CarQuest,Advance etc. and they can buy the diiferent grades just like we do. Maybe not all the stores do that but they can.

Re: brakes and wheel cylinders

I bought my wheel cylinders from my local Napa Parts store - they appear to be re manufactured original parts - very sturdy.
