Magnaflow Mufflers

Been watching some vids on You Tube and the Mags seem to have a tendency to crackle and pop upon deceleration or when revved up at least on newer Chevy trucks. Is this a common trait of these mufflers, if so I think I will go with the flowmasters. I just want a nice mellow rumble and maybe get louder on acceleration. Any thoughts from you guys running the Magnaflows?
I will be running straight duals from headers on my 69 to the mufflers
Thanks

Re: Magnaflow Mufflers

Mine never crackle or gurgle: listen here -- there is some slight distortion in the audio.

Re: Magnaflow Mufflers

I've had my Magnaflows on for about a year now (thanks, Luke!) and love 'em. Nice deep muted rumble and not a hint of snap, crackle, pop. To me, they sound much better than hollow, tinny echo-chamber Flowmasters...

The only thing you might want to check out is having an H pipe installed. I can't begin to tell you how that smoothed out my exhaust! Unbelievable!

^ what he said -

if you're worried about any popping/crackling, just put an X or H pipe on it, it'll smooth out the sound and most likely boost your torque a little.

I have h-pipe it cost an extra $50 at my muffler shop, I think it was money well spent.

Re: Magnaflow Mufflers

Nope, didn't want the extra hardware down there since I have a transfer case in the way. Ramhorns to dual pipes to mufflers to downpipes just ahead of the rear axle.

Re: Magnaflow Mufflers

I think dumping them straight back from the cab like Stocker did sound the best. I have had both Flows and Mags and the Mags seem to be a little more muffled but sond sort of like the Flows.

Been there, done that. It may not be ideal but I ran my H pipe behind the transfer case above the rear driveshaft. It made a big difference on deceleration pops, dut did not change the acceleration or cruising sound.

Re: Magnaflow Mufflers

My guess is the poping on decel is becuase the air fuel ratio is too rich. And a h-pipe or x-pipe will tone the popping down. I think most newer vehicles are pig rich from the factory because they install cream puff internals to save money and compensate by adding more fuel to prevent detonation. Just my .02 cents. That's how my Dodge was.

Re: Magnaflow Mufflers

I recently bought my 2000 GMC and it had a single flo on it with dual tails to the bumper. I couldn't wait to ge that thing off there as the interior drone was unbearable. I had a Mag put on and is much better. Still has some drone but not nearly as much. And I can report there is absolultely no popping or crackling at all.
