heat sux!

It's 106 in a shades right now. I went for a short drive. I replaced complete cooling system but today it was running hot again at 190. Before was 175 and 180 at 3500 rpm on the freeway. I will try straight water later on. I took a pic of the smoke from the fire that is going on right now. Air is bad, I could feel a slight power loss. I need to get a/c for my c10 one day. My back was stuck to the seat. Heat is sux.

190 isn't hot, I wouldn't worry about it. My 350 always runs at 190.

I didn't try the freeway but I am sure it will be around 210. I did change converters and I think a new converter causing it to run hot and slightlly less mpg.

If it will run those temps at 3500 rpm on the freeway you do not have a cooling problem! 190 with 106* ambient temp ain't bad either.

Re: heat sux!

straight water isnt a good idea.... so ya understand anti-freeze (coolant) raises the boiling point (along with the cap) so running straight water will lower boiling point and yoy may run hotter/overheat real quick (remember 212* is boiling on reg. water)
so run watter wetter or coolant... also whats your thermostat rated at ?? 190* aint nothing to worry about...

is it a stall or a stock cinverter?

i have seen stalls overload the tranny cooler and thusly heat the radiator causing higher water temps.

190 aint bad though, you never did say what your tstat was either.

Re: heat sux!

I am running a gutted t-stat. After trying 2 mr gasket high flow t-stat with bad results. Both failed and I had to tow it. Temp went to 240.
I have a stand alone aux trans cooler. Once the heat goes down I will swap converters again. TCI 11 inch converter rated at 2500 and stalls at 2900.

water cools better than coolant.
Antifreeze only ups the boiling point a few degrees... to 223 without added pressure from the cap.
Water boils at 212 F at sea level pressure, but when you increase the pressure, it raises the boiling point. For every one pound increase in pressure, you raise the boiling point about 3 1/2 degrees (at sea level) So with the typical 13 pound rad cap, this increases the boiling point 42.25 degrees... or 254.25 degrees.
