i was offered a 12 bolt 1969 chevy nova rear end with 373 posi in it for $150 bucks... i was wondering if the posi and gears will fit into my 12 bolt truck rearend or not? any help would be great!!!!!

Welcome to the forum! I don't think it will fit in your truck rearend. Someone else will chime in that knows more. On a side note, if the rear is good, snatch it up! I wish I could find two rears on my side of the woods. I've got two cars needing that rear, kind of hard to find here.

i was planning on getting it either way but i wanted to make sure before i got it and traded it and could have used it all along...

All i know for sure is there is two diff carriers for the diff gear ratios lower gears takes one and higher gears takes another if the one you have in the truck now is close to the same gear ration you might be alright., just takem apart and compare! goodluck!

i know i bought a full spool from strange and put in my 72 , 12 bolt truck rearend, and it was for car or truck,, but the rearend cover i bought from them didnt fit it was for a car. puzzled me. i say the 12 bolt posi will fit . but the cover wont. just my 2 cents. vince

I have tried this once upon a time, and the car posi would not fit in the truck housing. I don't remember what series it was, but it seems like the car one had a larger body and would hit the inside of the truck housing. I know if you buy a new one, they list a different part number for the truck than the car. I do know for sure, that the gears won't work. The truck rear has a smaller diameter pinion than the car.

There was a thread over in the racing section about using different bearings in the rear to use a car gearset (at least I think that's what they were doing

For what it's worth....I bought a 1st Gen Camaro 12 bolt posi 2 months ago for $300 off craigslist. It decoded to a '67 Camaro with original 3.31 posi. Point is that these rear ends are hard to come by and I had a guy in Georgia buy it from me off eBay for $1,200 PLUS shipping. It's narrower than the 2nd gen Camaros and people will pay big money for them. You should take the axle code off the tube and decode it. People tend to not know what they have. You won't get as much off craigslist than you will on eBay though. The people with the big $$$ like the ease of ebay because they don't have to mess with trying to talk you into shipping. I couldn't sell mine on craigslist for $900 and then got the $1,200 on ebay. Sell it and then buy a new Eaton!!!!

I'm supposed to talk to my buddy at work tomorrow so we can get it all worked out.... hes a Chevy guy but he likes cars more so than trucks.... its all good tho

I do know that the car 12 bolt has a bigger pinion than the truck 12 bolt...

If the sizes of both rear ends are close to the same just mount the entire new rear axle, I'm doing this with a rear axle off a 94 caprice classic for the highway gears and it's not much work to get it to mount in, I will have to figure out the upper control arms from the car on the truck or weld a bracket for the torsion bar.

hes right.... 12 bolts bring a premium !!! buy it up and resell it .... good find....

it will work in the nova or camaro with no mods..... (68-72 nova & 67-69 camaro)
