Radiator Is now puking

I have a 70 C10 with a 402 and a 4 core radiator. Its been blowing hot air through the AC outlets so for a quick fix I disconnected the heater core. Just cut the hoses and made a u out of PVC to reconnect the hoses to instead of just plugging the hoses. Now every time I shut it off it pukes coolant out the overflow line. There is no overflow bottle never was one. It drains the coolant to the bottom of the radiator. Why would it start just by disconnecting the heater core? I did replace the cape but no change.

Mine pukes it out to a certain level then stops, about 1" below the radiator cap. Possibly you filled it but it had been staying at a lower level?

Your heater core and hoses were acting as a reservoir and heat exchanger. Now the extra heat is creating pressure causing your problem.

Is your truck overheating at all? If not, do a search on overflow tank and see what others have done. I made one out of black piping I got at Lowes. Cost was about 10 dollars or so. There are other more expensive ones you can purchase.

By disconnecting those lines, you have diminished the capacity of the cooling system. Maybe it is enough that when you shut it off and it heats up a little bit (which is when they get the hottest), it's boiling over. You can get an aftermarket bottle and install it on the inner fender well or 100 other places depending on how creative you want to be. I've done this on my older vehicles and saved a lot of "topping off" with coolant.

I was going to try the overflow bottle but after a couple of drives it just about drains the entire radiator. The truck runs about 185 so it not overheating.

If it's draining that much out, I'd replace the cap first if you haven't done so already. Also, make sure you're getting the proper pressure cap for your engine. And for sure, I'd get an overflow bottle.

Re: Radiator Is now puking

Well I just went out and added an overflow tank. Had one from my Jeep. I started her up and let it run for a while. For some reason I was checking the U I made from PVC and its cracked. The coolant is funning down the inner fender and dripping right by the overflow hose. So I'm off to the Depot for another U but this time it will be steel.

Just loop hose back to the other outlet..You wont have to worry about 2 extra connections and the hose is usually flexible enough to make the bend.
