ive got the gasser bug, and my 69 will be the victim...
so ive been reading hot rod deluxe, ol school rods and few other. then i went to the track with a friend of mine to "pit crew' for him and his big block 4 speed nova.
ive always loved drag racing, and been to many local events. but have never made a pass. i want to make my 69 lwb stepside into a gasser. its already dropped like 6 in the rear and 5 in the front. im thinking i can gut the front ifs and just put in 4wd front spring hangers and crossmembers to get the leaves. ive got a set of factory leaves. or even lift springs with a few leaves removed to make it softer. i could really loose alot of weight dropping that junk. then gutting the front end and loosing the hood at the track. straight axle kit from speedway with spindles an everything you need. with the trailing arms in the rear it virtually eliminates axle wrap and wheel hop. and its already got a 12bolt. the one on the thread i looked at on here looked really good and made me want mine done even more! im worried about the 2wd steering sector. angles of steering arms and such. ive got a nasty 327 and built 400turbo just begging to go for a run. think it will work? did i mention that the front end is completly wore out and needs bushings everywhere, ball joints and wheel bearings? and i would be making it 'safer' for the road? hehe man, i want it so bad! I think Norma Jean would really dig hard man! lets hear it kids? |

You could maybe use 4wd steering. That would be a cool truck.I just wouldn`t want it for a daily driver.

go for it! I love me a gasser!
I always thought that stepside would look sick done up gasser style. if you go that route, be sure to do a build thread on it!

Re: ive got the gasser bug, and my 69 will be the victim...
it prolly would work better with a 4wd steering sector huh? now that im thinking of where the arm is at on one compared to my 2wd
ive got a set of old school 15/10 aluminum spokes (think white spoke wagon wheels) for the back. and get a set of like 14 or 15/5 cragars s/s or torq thrust on the front. itd prolly have to be 5 lug on the front thats all that speedway offers, but thats ok! man im sick, i need to go to the garage and start the tear down like NOW! ill try to get a pic of it up today as is. straight axel gassers are really cool//BUT make no mistake about it they are really crude and not a street friendly way to drive in any way shape or form // they're designed to go in a straight line 1/4mile at a time not handle turning as thier radius is quite wide no do they do good on crowned or curvey roads// if serious and got the cash to blow on a gasser toy go on over to www.jalopeyjournal.com for help seeing thru this project

Re: ive got the gasser bug, and my 69 will be the victim...
ive got the suspension parts i need. ill have to decide later if i want it higher in the front ill break up one of the lift kits i got.
im stickin with the 2wd sector and running the drag link to the right side. i think it will help with the turning radus. if i install the axle at the same kingpin angles as a 4wd front axle it shouldnt handle any worse than a 4wd. just minus the sway bar... hmm may have to figure something out. i cant bring myself to do the body mods in the links one because i can bring myself to cut up my cab, because besides the rockers its perfect and two im not that great of a fabricator. haha HAHA i just saw this little guy! whats up cholo! |
