Re: stereo install in 73
you dont need a "kit"
you need the following stereo complete with harness (just for the stereo) inline blade fuse holder (OR use the factory "extra" slots in your fuze block) some t splices a roll of 12-14 gauge speaker wire a few solid splices (aka straight splices etc..) some speakers and a self tapping screw for your ground instructions.. find location for your radio(head unit) mount etc head unit to ensure proper fitting and appearance remove head unit and install the security plate (it's the metal rectangle around your radio itself) then find a "constant hot" wire.. that will be for your "memory wire" (usually a cigarette lighter hot will work) find an IGN hot wire (this is pretty much any accesory that turns on when the truck does... but you can also use the fuze block which is a much cleaner install) tap with the sheetmetal screw and secure a good ground then run and connect your speaker wires to the locations you desire connect all together (each and every wire on the radio is marked, and if not the identification pictures are commonly available on the internet) then turn on stereo .. enjoy music.. easy as pie

Nevermimd I was reading the other threads and found my problem. Had to switch the yellow and red wires. Now one questions is it necessary to run those in line fuses

Re: stereo install in 73
yes it is nessescary
you need a fuze4 between the stereo and mainpower somewhere.. the inline uzes are cheal (under 5 bucks) and easy to install... so just in case anythign happens to yoru truck/stereo the stereo will survive, the fuze will blow instead
