trouble with a wobbling wheel
I was coming home the other day when a guy commented on a great truck then told me that the rear wheel was wobbling on the passenger side. I had my wife drive the truck and I followed to see the problem and the wheel looked like it was bent , so I swapped the front for the back and the back rim I put up front was straight and true but the front one I put on the back was now wobbling. The wheels are the 2008 2500 HD wheels and should be perfect as they had only 50 miles or so on them. I guess the axle is bent or maybe the bearing is worn out....has anyone gone thru this before and what kind of problems did you have? Te rearend is out of a 1986 3/4 T(non floater type 14 bolt).....any help would be great

Re: trouble with a wobbling wheel
is your wheel mounting flush to the drm, is the drum on straight? assuming you have drum brakes.
and yea check the axle for play. could be a number of things.

Re: trouble with a wobbling wheel
possibly a bent flange on the axle itself,i had that issue with my tahoe. jack it up take off the drum and spin other tire, watch flange to see if its running out

Re: trouble with a wobbling wheel
Jack the truck up in the air with the rear wheels off the ground and exchange the rr for the Lr and put it in drive and see if it is still wobbling. You can go to some tire stores and they can check the straightness of you rims.Goodluck.

Re: trouble with a wobbling wheel
a wheel bearing wouldnt make a wheel wobble, it would lean, slightly.
you need to make sure that the wheel is fully seating againt the drum. measure the opening in the wheel and the step in the axle shaft to make sure the wheel is fitting over it a not pinching aginst it. mark the first lug nut you tighten and see if it is the deepest portion of the wobble. |

Re: trouble with a wobbling wheel
I had this exact problem when I bought my truck. I tore apart the rear end and discovered the Axle was bent along with the bearing being destroyed. Replaced the axle and bearings, also a bent axle makes it a ***** to get the C-clip off. Oh yea while you are in there replace the drums with disc brakes since it will be the perfect time to do so.

Re: trouble with a wobbling wheel
My dime is on a bent axle. Second would be bearings.

Re: trouble with a wobbling wheel
Yep, I say bent Axle. My dads 99 burb did this. I pointed it out to him and said bent axle. He had a new axle shaft put in and now it is fine.
He fish tailed it around a u-turn and smaked a curb and that is how it happened. He tells me after I pointed it out. |
