Re: late model seat
This may not be accurate but i heard you can put a fully manual 04-05? seat in. But it takes a little more modification. I know texandiot did one is his truck so you might want to talk to him

Re: late model seat
Usually the biggest part of the job is fabricating the pedestals.

Re: late model seat
88-94 GM truck seat are nearly bolt in. No fabbing needed at all, just drilling new holes.

There's a post on the 88-98 forum today with one in a 67-72 if you want to see how it looks.

Re: late model seat
Just about ANY GM truck/van seat out of the last 50 years is pretty much a "Drill-holes-bolt-seat" install. Even my '08 silverado seats (which are AWESOME. Lots of side support, thick cushions, big center console jump seat. But did use S10 seat belts but stock ones would work) were just a matter of drilling holes. Reason being is GM is cheap and makes the floor pans in all their trucks and vans flat. So there's no issue with funny angled seat mounts or anything.
I got REALLY lucky and got these for 100 bucks out of a rolled over '08 Silverado. Two tone, clean, and very comfortable. No matter what way you go, be sure to back all new bolt holes with backing plates or a pair of body washers per bolt. In my case it's a piece of 1/8in steel plate welded to the floor, with a body washer and lock nut on each bolt. Floor pans are weak, and just bolting with no structure is asking for them to rip out in a crash. Last edited by texanidiot25; 09-07-2009 at 11:00 PM. |

Re: late model seat
not ALL gm trucks had a flat floor. there was a generation that spanned most of the 70's and most of the 80's that had a very UNflat floor.
Unless you are real skinny, you'll need to keep a close eye on the thickness of the seat back. One inch given up behind you feels like 2 inches of belly room lost. On a totally personal note, but one worth mentioning... many feel the real tall seats sticking up into the rear window looks funny. |

I actually have a perfect seat that is beautiful out of a 73-87 chevy truck. It won't mount right up, but I am considering using the seat brackets and tracks for our bench seat and seeing if I can make them work. I haven't truly decided if that's the way to go yet though. I may just sell the nice seat and do something else. A agree with the seats sticking up through the back window. Really only looks good on a small back window '67, in my opinion. Unless you take the headrest off AND get rid of the little holes in the top of the seat. But even then the newer seats then look like they are missing something. JMHO. Shawn
