air bags shocks?

I am rebuilding my frame finally got the air bags installed but now I need to get a set of shocks front and back. I have CPP tubular arms up front and a cnotch in back what are you using? which brand is good better? parts numbers would be great. Thank you in advance for any information.

Re: air bags shocks?

My front setup is really simple. The shocks are Monroe part number 5752, the application is a 1950 Chrysler, the closed length is 8.63 and fully open is 12.74. They have 4.13 inches of travel.

My lower mount is stock. The factory upper mounts bolt into the frame and are designed to be thrown away as part of the shock. The Chrysler shocks don’t come with any hardware.

The factory mount has a washer welded to the outside of the shock bolt. I cut off the washer with my band saw leaving as much of the bolt as possible. I bolted the factory mount back onto the frame and slid the Chrysler shock over the bolt. I was left with roughly 3/8 to a ½ inch of bolt sticking out of the shock loop. I marked the excess and drilled a hole in the center with a drill press, grabbed a couple pins from Lowes and bam, I have a new/old upper mount. I went to all this trouble because the aftermarket upper mounts don’t properly fit the factory frame holes. I’ve seen a lot of cheap shock bolts ruin the frame hole then the shocks rattle. It was a little extra work but everything is tight.

this is an email and what I use works like a charm

Re: air bags shocks?

if you pm me you email I can forward the email with pics then maybe you could post them

as far as the rear I havn't done it yet but if you just flip your rear lower shock mounts left to right you will drop the rear mount about 2" and you can reuse your old shocks....keep in mind there is some simple fab work to straight'n out the bends so it will fit flat..if you look at the mount you will see it's pretty easy

Re: air bags shocks?

that was a little challenging trying to post em, they came in an email doc lol. hope this works

Heres, the email -

Here’s the cut off washer………….

[IMG][/IMG]

Here’s the upper mount……………….

[IMG][/IMG]

The mount has no pressure what so ever on the pin. All the pressure is up and down on the stud. I’ve worked around asphalt circle tracks for over 25 years and a lot of racecars run shock pins.

The shocks have been on my truck for about 2 months, roughly 1000 miles. I’ve experienced zero issues with them and I’m quite pleased. My truck is on 2600 lb Firestone bags with Suicide Doors upper and lower bag mounts.
Let me know if you have any questions.

Re: air bags shocks?

thanx hope this helps someone I have been running these for about 3 months I would love to tell you how many miles but just got my speedo working ...lol...but alot

as far as the top mount as you can see this set up used a pin to keep the shock on ...on my truck I had a diff set up I just undid the nut and slid it ouver the exsisting shock mount and tightened up the nut......I'll keep you guys posted on the rears but it won't be any sooner than thursday friday?? at best

Re: air bags shocks?

I read on here before that the front shocks in the ART kit is monroe 33033....

I am interested to hear what people are using in the rear with bags and a c-notch and shock relocators...I tried several searches but couldn't find any part numbers.

Re: air bags shocks?

for the rear Ive read you can modify the existing brackets both upper and lowers, a guy on her just did a thread the other day and I followed it. Worked real good too, but for those lower brackets in the rears you gotta use a torch and a 3 pound sledge to flatten them lips! also you have to cut off a little bit where the shock hits the bracket on the hole part of the bracket. the uppers I just relocated the hole. still was able to use stock shocks
