Door lock advise

I am needing some advise to make sure I am spending the money on the right part.

My problem is that the driver door locks but then unlocks when I try the handle, I put this down to excessive tumbler wear which causes the tumbler to move over the locking pin when I try the handle. So I am planning to replace the door latch assembly in a bid to fix this.

Has anybody else had a similar problem? How did you resolve it?

Thanks in advance

Re: Door lock advise

Are you locking the doors with the key?

Have you read this thread?

I don't quite understand your statement "which causes the tumbler to move over the locking pin when I try the handle". I don't think the latch is your problem, unless the notch that the locking pawl (the arm on the back of the lock cylinder) fits into is bent. I will try and get some pictures up later that shows all of the parts.

Re: Door lock advise

Yeah, I'm starting to think it may not be the latch assembly, although it is a little loose. Due to the fact that the the door locks when I turn the key (well the button goes down on the top of the door) and it is unlocked when I push the button on the handle.

I will take the door panel off in the next few days as I have a new set of GM locks from the PO, I may as well replace that lock and see what happens frome there. It may turn out that it is simply not locking due to a worn lock.

Thanks for your help.

The door latch is probubly worn. You can remove it and either replace it. They are fairly plentiful on this site or I have repaired them by welding worn parts . also lube it well when you have it out.
