Just food for thought, I have a newer '86 Grumman stepvan. Has the ten lug rear wheels and the 5 lug front wheel but 19.5 tires(easier to get), But the reason I am mentioning that is because you could probably find a higher gear ratio for your truck relatively easy out of an old bread van or same style van. The width would probably be pretty close also. Either way, have fun with your new project.

that truck isn't a C/40 at all... just a C/30 built to work.

Not at first, kinda long story. When I got it the 292 was gone and had been replaced with a 250. It was running ok but it was leaking a lot of oil. I replaced a few of the gaskets but it kept leaking bad. So I pulled the motor out and replaced all the gaskets and seals and cleaned it all up.

This should cure the leaks, so I thought. It got worse. Apparantly the motor had so much blow by that the oil was almost spraying out now. What a mess......

ho 72 rear axle, also it wont stop the oil leaks as it probably has a lot of blow by. do yourself a favor and do a compression check before you go too far on engine install.

So it was time to rebuild or replace the tired 250. It was coming out...

your original bed looks dead nuts like mine.

It was not uncommon to see GMC/Chevy trucks with suspension upgrades bringing the GVW into the next range for cheaper tag fee's, commonality on fleet orders, etc. The hydrovac provides the most line pressure for hydraulic brakes, the next jump would be air-brakes.
