Trashed Front Driveshaft
1979 K20 Camper Special 350/th400/203/14bolt/10bolt
Lots of play in my front driveshaft. It looks like the slip yoke is worn out. What's the best way to take care of this short of sending $300 or so to LMC? I'm looking for a decent used one. How about getting a new yoke and getting the shaft rebalanced? Where would you get a yoke? Thanks |

Should be pretty common. Did you check the classifieds on this board, seems to be a few trucks being parted out.

I watched ebay for a long time and found a rebuilt one for 50 bucks.

Have a driveline shop weld in a new slip yoke assy. Should be about $100 or so.

Take it off then take it to a local driveline shop...that will be the best bang for your buck!

Does this truck still have the "full-time" 4 wheel drive?
If so, a part-time conversion kit will do a lot for you. Not only will it take the load off of that front driveshaft, it will make a huge difference in the way the truck drives. It will "feel" lighter and easier to drive....and there is a fuel mileage bonus to go with that.

It is full time and will stay that way for a while. Wife will be driving some and doesn't want to get out to mess with hubs. This truck will see 3000-4000 miles per year max and horrific mileage is expected. But I will probably convert my old transfer case at some point.
