cam and crank gears please help
what year did chevy line the dots up on both the cam and crank i thank i have a 1980 motor suffix code tmm casteing # 3970010 and do the dot go up on the crank and cam down or both up thanks

Crank up, cam down so they line up. If you know some one with a degree wheel and dial indicator kit make use of it you would be amazed at how many are off mark a degree or 2 on the factory marks.

with the crank at 12 oclock and the cam at 6 oclock you will be on number 6 compression stroke...turn the crank one revolution and the crank will be at 12 and so will the cam...now your on the #1 compression stroke....so ...install crank 12 and cam 6...then rotate crank 360 degrres for the distributor install
