Re: 69-70 grills

Replacement (with the lettering) or repop (without)? That is the question. You could always use a repop 71-72 and a billet grille and save a few bucks. Of course, you have to deal with the parking lamps.....maybe ante up some more bucks and get some of those "new-fangled headlights with the L.E.D. parking lights built-in"...

Re: 69-70 grills

I got one without the lettering. Used the letter stickers the vendors sell. Lined em up with my old grill. Looks good and saved a few $$$.

Re: 69-70 grills

Have you priced an original, or NOS?

The main thing to remember is that we are lucky there are companies still repoping these items or the price of original/NOS items would be double if not triple what they are. Keep you eyes open in the 67-72 parts board to see what might pop up in that area.

Best of luck on your purchase!

Re: 69-70 grills

You can find the ones offered by Gm with letters for anywhere from $600 -$900. Some dealers still will sell them. They are not NOS or original just a repop also. GM quit making them years ago. People think they are GM. We used to be able to get them but our source doesn't offer them anymore, or at least I haven't checked. The one from LMC with letters is the same as the ones you will get from the Dealer or places like GMpartsdirect. Hence the price. You will find cracks in the stampings and little imperfections in them as well as the lesser priced ones w/o letters.

Re: 69-70 grills

These (the original parts) are simple stamped aluminum right? Not thin stainless?

Mine looks repairable, but I didn't think about doing that work until this thread came up! $$$

Re: 69-70 grills

I have been sitting on this truck for more than 10 years after the wreck... it is far from all original. I rebuilt it (the first time) from the junkyards. I started messing with it the other day figuring there was no reason to let it go to waist at least I could drive it!!! I was snooping around at work and saw that price and reolized that I have been away for a long time... Hell I was walking through autozone looking for a holley carb rebuilt kit looking at flowmasters that cost me $45 are now $80???? and yeah I got agrivated trying to explain that a holley 4150 is not in there computer... Drove home and next day aired the kit from summit... It is going to be a long haul to learn the ropes again!!! Thanks for the replies and advice!!!

Re: 69-70 grills

Not too long ago I bought a new grill and insert for my 70. I saw the ridiculous price for the lettered grill from LMC and under no circumstances did I want the blank grill because I'm trying to build this sucker bone stock(at least on the outside). I called Classic Parts and the lady swore up and down that their lettered grill ($499) was OEM. So I bought it. I also don't understand why LMC wants 900 bucks for theirs even if it was OEM. Gotta crosscheck your prices before ordering.

Like I said they are hard to get. may have to check Claasic parts again. I am sure they have trouble getting them as well

do you have any pictures of how yours turned out? That sounds like a very do-able option.
