Anyone ever installed a different engine, not Chevy??
I have a '91 S-10, and a vehical I no longer have use for. I was just wondering if anyone has installed anything other than Chevy. I have seen Izuzu with 302 Fords and everyone knowing the saying, "Built Ford tough with Chevy stuff" LOL.

Re: Anyone ever installed a different engine, not Chevy??
I haven't put brand X's in my GM vehicles but, I sure put Chevy engines in other brands. I put a 427 in a 63 Fairlane GT, A 327 in a 68 Cougar, and a 350 in a 64 Tempest!
A pic of a Deutz air-cooled diesel in a Chevy. Last edited by Dooley; 06-17-2009 at 11:02 PM. |

I have something that may be a first. It's not real crazy but different. It should be fun. I love my Chevys but I do like other things too.

Re: Anyone ever installed a different engine, not Chevy??
I did a good one back in 1999.
a 40 Plymouth 2dr sedan, 57 Chevy 235 punched .120 (had to sleeve one hole), last known Isky cam in existance, clifford intake, and multi-port injection from a 94 F250. the double takes at cruise-ins were kool. people kept asking me "what the he77 is that?" |

A friend of mine used to have an S10 with a Buick 3.8. It ran pretty good. I have plans of putting an Infinity Q45 engine in my '46 Chevy truck.

Re: Anyone ever installed a different engine, not Chevy??
My swap is going pretty good, consists of a 600hp engine, and 125-150 shot I got from a friend. He was unsure of the shot, but he had it, and a 250 shot on his '65 Chevelle. I'm installing a 10 bolt built posi from a '72 Nova, and street tires. These things can hook with streets the way I have my setup planned out.

Trucks engine swap is almost done. Needs gas line ran, wiring cleaned up, but it turns over. After that it's D-shaft, and exhaust, and it'll be driving.

His was an older one from a rwd car. If I remember right they just bolted the trans up to the factory x-member. Then they built motor mounts to match. There are an abundance of 3.8 parts to be found.

The 3.8 has a huge after market. You can get 300+ inch blocks, heads, turbo setups. The bellhousing pattern is the same as the 2.8.

Older (87 back) rwd 3.8 has the same bellhousing pattern as chevy smallblock.

Re: Anyone ever installed a different engine, not Chevy??
Well, almost forgot all about my swap. I got finished about a week after the start of this thread. Very unique, but I like it, and the S-10's are light and a dime a dozen.

Mopar? That is a ton of stroke. I know a guy that put a 440 in a '69 camaro. Thats what hot rodding is all about. whatever makes it fast.

Re: Anyone ever installed a different engine, not Chevy??
Yes Mopar. This wasn't anything short of a real challenge. A pita!, and the last one that I'll do. The S-10's narrow frame and the Mopar's right side starter. The 3in longer engine, and 1.5in wider made it a challenge too. It's in there. Now, I'm trying to get a rearend under there.
